Maarten Hikspoors

Project Designer

B.Sc (Architecture)

Maarten is a graduate student from the Netherlands and joins Enform as a Project Designer. He completed his bachelor's degree at Delft University of Technology and is halfway through his graduate studies. During an exchange in Toronto at Toronto Metropolitan University, Maarten participated in a Zero Carbon MURB design studio led by Kevin Stelzer and gained experience designing a high-performance enclosure, low-powered mechanical system, and onsite renewable energy source within the context of Toronto.

Prior to joining Enform, Maarten worked at Rau Architects, one of the leading Dutch sustainable architecture firms. There he contributed to many projects, most notably a primary school completed fully in mass timber.

Maarten’s inspirations and design ideals are rooted in his aspiration for nature inclusivity, simplicity, and human scale. He incorporates his reverence for mountains and the environment by integrating outdoor spaces and natural elements into each of his designs. Maarten strives to design sustainable architecture that is clear in its design concept and is compelling aesthetically. He is interested in circularity, using biobased materials, and integrating passive climate control systems.
